Turning Over a New Leaf: September in Garden City

Turning Over a New Leaf: September in Garden City

September in Garden City is a month of transformation. The long, golden days of summer gently fade into cooler mornings, and with each week the leaves along the Boise River Greenbelt begin to shift into warm shades of amber, crimson, and gold. It’s a season that reminds us to slow down and notice the beauty all around.

One of the best ways to experience the changing season is with a stroll or bike ride along the Greenbelt. The trees that line the river create a canopy of color, mirrored in the water as the leaves drift down. Whether you’re an early riser catching the soft glow of sunrise or out at sunset as the sky turns pink, September is the beginning of nature’s most breathtaking show.

Local wineries, breweries, and cider houses capture the harvest spirit this month. With grapes and apples ripening, tasting rooms offer the perfect place to raise a glass to the new season. Pair your drink with a patio seat where you can watch the leaves slowly change around you.

As the air turns crisp, Garden City’s creative side comes alive. From art walks to live music, community gatherings take on a cozy, welcoming feel. It’s the ideal time to meet up with friends, discover something new, and enjoy the simple joy of autumn in the city.

The season’s change is more than just cooler weather—it’s a reminder of how much beauty can be found in transition. September invites visitors and locals alike to breathe deeply, take in the colors, and embrace the rhythm of nature as summer drifts into fall.

Whether you come for the river, the art, the flavors, or simply the turning leaves, September in Garden City offers a view worth savoring.

Building Brighter Futures for Garden City

On June 19, 2024, the Garden City Visitors Bureau (GCVB) hosted its second annual Garden Party, a vibrant and joyous event dedicated to supporting the organizations daily business activities and raising funds for the local nonprofit Giraffe Laugh Early Learning Centers. This year, the event was a resounding success, drawing close to 100 enthusiastic attendees and generous contributions from 50 businesses, culminating in significant financial support for both organizations. However, the Garden Party is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a testament to Garden City’s commitment to community and collaboration.

“The Garden City Visitors Bureau chose Giraffe Laugh Early Learning Centers for the 2024 Garden Party to invest in our community and its smallest residents. Giving back through this event offers a unique need in healthy programs and learning opportunities for young people. We hope through our efforts to create a lasting change within our community and build a positive relationship,” said Dawn Snapp-Leasure, a long-time supporter and GCVB board member.

The event’s results were indeed impressive. After expenses, the Garden City Visitors Bureau raised $24,949, and Giraffe Laugh received $11,056. This substantial contribution will significantly impact both organizations, enabling them to continue their vital work within the community.

Giraffe Laugh: Building Strong Futures

They aim to ensure school readiness, empower families, and build strong futures. The organization envisions a future where every child in the Treasure Valley receives high-quality early childhood education, and all parents have the necessary support during the early stages of parenthood, irrespective of their age or financial situation.

Established in 1989, Giraffe Laugh began as a drop-in childcare center for low-income families. Over the years, it has expanded to meet the growing need for affordable, high-quality childcare and preschool opportunities in the Treasure Valley community. Today, Giraffe Laugh proudly serves over 170 children annually across its various centers, including a location in Garden City.

“Giraffe Laugh was thrilled to be chosen as the beneficiary of the Garden City Visitors Bureau for their Annual Garden Party event. The incredible donation from the Garden City Visitors Bureau will provide scholarships for low to moderate-income families who would otherwise not be able to afford quality childcare. In addition to scholarships, Giraffe Laugh provides access to food pantries at all centers as well as support for the entire family. We are grateful to all who attended this event and contributed their treasures to help Giraffe Laugh ensure school readiness, empower families, and build strong futures. Our partnership with the Garden City Visitors Bureau enhances the Garden City community and we are grateful to know and work with this amazing organization,” said Cassandra Wagner, Philanthropy Director, Giraffe Laugh.

The Garden City Visitors Bureau: Enhancing Community Through Tourism

The Garden City Visitors Bureau is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization supported by a dedicated volunteer board, grant funding, and its annual fundraiser, the Garden Party. The Visitors Bureau is crucial in promoting tourism and enhancing the local community by supporting daily business activities and special initiatives like the Garden Party.

The success of the 2nd Annual Garden Party highlights the power of community and the collective impact of individuals and businesses coming together for a common cause. The funds raised will support GCVB’s mission and provide critical resources for Giraffe Laugh, ensuring that more children in the Treasure Valley have access to quality early education and that their families receive the support they need.

As Garden City continues to grow and thrive, events like the Garden Party remind its residents and businesses of its strength and generosity. The Garden City Visitors Bureau and Giraffe Laugh look forward to continuing their partnership and making a positive difference in the community for years.
