What is “The Wave” everyone talks about?
Can You Actually Surf in Idaho?
The answer is 100% yes!
The Wave makes Garden City the chillest place to be when the
summer heat turns up. If you don’t believe it, come see for
yourself!
Located right off the Greenbelt near 34th Street, The Wave is the
first of four engineered river waves designed for surfing,
kayaking, and boogie boarding.
The river features two adjustable mechanical waves and two
lower waves created with engineered boulders. The waves
operate on a schedule, so the conditions change throughout the
day to create the best experience for either surfing or kayaking.
(You can check the schedule below.)

The Wave has become a true community gathering place.
Surfers and kayakers can test their skills on the river, while
passersby stop along the Greenbelt to watch the action. Next to
the upper wave, you can relax on the Dude DeWalt Cellars patio
with a glass of wine while cheering on the surfers.
It’s one of the many places that makes our community special—a
spot where people can gather, connect, and enjoy Idaho’s
beautiful outdoors.
If you’re looking to get out on the river this summer, stop by
Corridor, the local surf shop, for rentals and gear, including
paddle boards, surfboards, and wetsuits.
Come cool down with us on the river this summer!
Before you head out, be sure to check the park’s live wave cam
so you know what conditions to expect.
